Donny Hathaway "Come Back Charleston Blue OST" (1971)

Found this one over at "The Movement Forum." First I've ever heard of this record, but anything with Quincy Jones' name on it, is usually worth a listen, especially if it's from the early seventies. Conducted & Composed by Donny Hathaway, and Supervised by Quincy himself, it's definately a fine addition to your collection (let's not forget the amazing work J. J. Johnson did on the "Man & Boy OST" under the watchful eye of Mr. Jones). Anyways, contains a famous track that most hip-hoppers will know, "Little Ghetto Boy." Get this. Back soon. Peace!

Randy Weston "Blue Moses" (1972)

Picked this one up over at "Blog O Blog," and it's an outstanding conventional Jazz album off the CTI label, with a hint surrealism. The cover alone screams volumes. Get this one, and enjoy the clarity of the CD rip. It's well worth the listen. Happy New Year everyone!

Ike & Tina Turner "Workin' Together" (1971)

Here's another one from my mom's collection. Not to be dismissed as your everyday, run-of-them mill, 70's pop album (even though it contains one of their biggest commercial hits "Proud Mary"). Ike is one hell of a gentleman when it comes to his skill as producer, so get ready for some slick rare grooves & soul vocals through-out. Although there are a few unrepairable nicks on this one, it's definately a gem. Back soon. Peace!

Best of Mo'Wax 12's - The DJ Shadow Collection

Let's close out 2007 with something that's well worth a listen to as the clock ticks down to a new year. Stumbled across this last night over at our good neighbors spot: Turbo City. Don't know if it's an offical release, but it does contain some rare versions of tracks that I don't even have. Get it while you can. Happy New Year! Peace!

Mongo Santamaria "Soul Bag" (1968)

Spent Christmas morning with the family, then had to head out to my mom's about noon. After we passed out the gifts, I remembered that she had quite the vinyl collection back in the day; I only remembered that because I always had to help lug them around every time we moved. Anyways, I happened to find a lot of things that you wouldn't think to find in a crate full of old records owned by a 61 year old divorcee/widow from the state of Texas. After spending some time delving through the remnants of her collection, I only came to one final conclusion: mama's got soul... Okay, so this is a nice one, and except for a few unrepairable nicks & scratches through-out, it plays pretty damn good. Bernard Purdie drums, Hubert Laws flute, Luis Gasca trumpet, and Mongo on percussions; need I say more!?! Enjoy this. I know I did. Back soon. Peace!
